Spring Detox

Spring has always been the best time of the year to cleanse our bodies. After Winter, the most yin period of the year, the snow slowly starts to melt. A similar process is happening with our own bodies, where all stored ‘reserves’ that want to go out of the body. That is why we often have a running nose in Spring time, or even get a cold. Just like the Earth, our body is clearing itself. Preparing it for the next step in the cycle. Getting rid of the old (toxic) that is no longer needed, preparing for a new beginning.

An important thing to do during the Spring time, from my experience, is to move the body, get massages or self-massage your body, eat light and healthy food. This way we help the body to move all toxins out of our body.

It is also a great time to fast. A water-fast, a juice fast, or just removing one or two things out of your diet for a while, like coffee, sugar, alcohol, meat, etc. could already be of great benefit. Remember that you don’t have to go all the way immediately. I have learned that it is important to be disciplined in a loving way. You don’t have to force or torture yourself, as that often get’s the opposite results. So just feel into it, and see what is best for you, at this moment of your life. Remember that what works for you today, doesn’t necessarily work for you tomorrow. Be gentle with yourself, and follow your body’s impulse, and be aware of the mind…

At the moment I am joining the Arun Medicine Buddha One Week Regenerative Detox, a Juice Cleanse that my dear friends and teachers Anubuddha and Anasha are organising. A clean body creates a clear mind. And of course also makes us less vulnerable to catch any disease.

What is important to keep in mind during the Spring Detox, is to give yourself time to rest and to heal as well. You might want to be a bit less social and outgoing as usual, focussing on yourself, listening to your inner voice, doing yoga, meditation, finding out what you really want to do in life. Soon you will be more outgoing again, when the Spring season starts to evolve. So really allow yourself to take this time to reset your body and mind, to create the life you truly want to live.
